2010 Shark Tournament

The first Chompers Shark Tournament has come to an end. Although only 9 boats were registered, there was still plenty of action and excitement. A total of 8 sharks were brought to the scales for weighing; 1 Thresher, 5 Mako and 2 Blue, and 1 Bluefish. Saltwater Cowboy was the big winner with their 560 pound thresher. They took the first place heaviest shark trophy, the Open Shark Calcuttas and the daily Calcutta for Day 6. A check was presented to them for $1998.50. Gummy Bear was awarded the second place heaviest shark trophy for their 172 pound Mako. They also won the Mako Calcuttas. They received a check for $1175.00. The third place heaviest shark trophy was presented to Big Game III for their 162.2 pound Blue shark and a check for $90. Miss Donna was the only boat to bring a Bluefish to the scales and captured the heaviest Bluefish Calcutta. For their effort, they received a check for $515.00 and the heaviest Bluefish trophy. Restless Lady caught a 108.6 pound Mako and a 115 pound Blue Shark for their two days of fishing. They received a check for $589.00 for winning the daily Calcuttas on Day 3 & 4 and for taking second place in the Calcuttas A & B.

The DJ starting playing music to kickoff the picnic while the last shark was weighed on Saturday. Everyone enjoyed a nice dinner from La Tonalteca. The awards and money were presented after dinner.

Thanks to the Greene Turtle in Lewes for hosting the captains meeting for this tournament. They provided a good selection of finger foods and drinks for the tournament participants.

Friday was the 6^th fishing day for the Chompers Shark Tournament. 5 boats fished. The scales were crowded to see the big thresher that Salterwater Cowboys brought in. The thresher weighed an impressive 560 pounds and took over as the heaviest shark of the tournament. Two makos were also weighed. Gummy Bear brought a 172 pound mako to take the lead for the mako Calcuttas. Miss Donna had a 100.4 pound mako and also weighed the first bluefish of the tournament.

Saturday is the last fishing day and tournament trophies and monies will be awarded after the dinner under the tent.

Today June 9th, two boats fished the Chompers Shark Tournament. Restless Lady returned with a 115 lb, 70 inch Blue Shark to take the lead in the Open Shark Calcuttas. No bluefish have been weighed to date.

The captains meeting for the Chopmers Shark Tournament was held Saturday night at the Greene Turtle in Lewes. There was a nice spread of finger foods provided by the Greene Turtle and a DJ had the music playing. It is unfortunate that the participation in the tournament was low. Only eight boats registered. The total payout will be $4220. So far no boats fished either Sunday or Monday. The weather is looking better for Tuesday; so hopefully there will be some action at the weigh in from 5 to 7pm at the marina.

Chompers Shark Tournament

June 5^th through June 12^th 2010

Boats may check their fish at Lewes Harbor Marina in Lewes or White Marlin Marina in Ocean City and then truck them to Indian River for weigh in. Boats may also fish another shark tournament at the same time they are fishing the Chompers Shark tournament as long as their shark gets weighed on the IRBA scales at Indian River and they are fishing within the Chomper shark tournament boundaries and rules.
